EP. 2 - DIANA
CODIE: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining me for another edition of "What the Hale?!" I am your host, Codie Hale!
CODIE: This past week, Renegade Wrestling asked you the fans who you wanted to see me talk to next, and you guys answered. My second guest is here with me right now; she is a rising star in Renegade, AND my challenger for the Women's Championship at Crash Course! Please welcome: Diana!
DIANA: Hiii! Thanks for having me!
CODIE: Thanks for being part of the show! I have to say, when the polls came in that you'd be my next guest, I was surprised. But also excited! I mean, here we are, mere days away from Crash Course--where we will be competing for the most coveted prize in the Renegade Women's Division. Clearly the fans want to get to know the No. 1 contender, and I'm glad we have this opportunity to sit down and give that to them ahead of the match. So let's get started! Shall we?
DIANA: Sure!
CODIE: Fill us in on a little of your history. You're still a fresh face to the wrestling scene, but you've already begun building quite the name for yourself here on Renegade--and in WIW as well! What brought you into the business?
DIANA: Well Codie, I've always been a fan of wrestling. I mean, you have to really love this business if you're going to be a part of it, right?
CODIE: Very true.
DIANA: But before I made the transition from fan to superstar, I was doing modeling work back home in Canada. In fact, it wasn't until I met SDC that I started seriously considering stepping into a ring!
CODIE: Ah yes, it's no secret you and the Wrestling Hero are very close. I see you two hanging out backstage pretty frequently! So you're saying it was your friend SDC who introduced you to the business?
DIANA: More than that; he taught me everything I know! Showed me the ropes--no pun intended. For nearly a year, I tried to balance my modeling career with SDC's training, and for a while I was able to manage. But when you start showing up to photo shoots with bruises and rope burns, well...
CODIE: Doesn't go over so well with your employer, does it?
DIANA: My agency ended up letting me go... But it's alright; came back home that same day to find an offer from Mason Foster waiting in my mailbox.
CODIE: Traded in your modeling contract for a pair of wrestling boots, eh?
DIANA: (laughs) I did! And I haven't regretted it since! Y'know, I've had the honor of pitting myself against franchise names like Barbie Versace, Samantha Matua--Codie Hale, just a week from now! And a slew of other determined young women like myself.
DIANA: That's my mission here in Renegade: I want to show everyone watching around the world that the future of this business is right here on this roster. And I'm going to do that by proving that the new faces here are not just some "fresh meat." We are unsung stars; we can stand toe-to-toe with the giants of this industry and come out on top!
CODIE: Well, given your career thus far I'd say you've already sent that message!
DIANA: Well, thank you. But I'm not done yet! My biggest test will be at Crash Course. And I'm gonna be bringing everything I've got into that match--just like I know you will.
CODIE: I wouldn't expect anything less.
CODIE: On that note, let's go back to where this all started: Emergence. You were involved in a six-woman over-the-top battle royal to determine the first No. 1 contender for the, at that moment uncrowned, Renegade Women's Champion. You outlasted the five other competitors to secure your spot in the title picture.
CODIE: I remember being on the edge of my seat for that match. You did very well! One could even say you dominated. How many of the five other women did you eliminate? Three?
DIANA: It was four, actually.
CODIE: Four!
DIANA: (laughs) Yup!
CODIE: You really wanted your shot!
DIANA: I did!
CODIE: And you got it! Your very first championship opportunity. And it seems like you made it here so fast! How does that feel?
DIANA: Oh, I feel so many different things right now. Pride. Excitement! A little bit of anxiety, but more than anything I feel driven. I've shown the world what I'm capable of, and I'm ready to it again.
CODIE: I got a firsthand glimpse of what you're capable of during our tag team match last week. And I have to say, I was impressed! It was fun bringing down the house with you.
DIANA: Thank you, I had fun too! The fact that we were able to work together to pull out the win made it even better.
CODIE: A little bit unrelated: but something that caught my attention during that match--and I'm sure plenty of viewers noticed it, too--you actually removed your trademark hat. That was the first time we've ever seen you without it! In fact, I see you're wearing it here tonight. (laughs) What's the story there?
DIANA: Oh, you mean my lucky cap? I wear it everywhere! Me and this hat have been through a lot together.
CODIE: Well, I can sympathize with that. I myself own a pair of lucky socks. Actually, I believe I was wearing them for match against Sam Matua...
DIANA: (laughs)
CODIE: But here's the real "What the Hale" question I'm sure everybody is asking: how in the world do you manage to keep your lucky cap on despite how physical things get in that ring? I've never seen anything like it. It defies all logic!
DIANA: (laughs) Codie, I honestly can't tell you. For all I know, it could be static cling. Or it could also be, y'know... (whispers) Luck!
CODIE: And what finally brought on the decision to remove it? Just trying for a new look? Or are you perhaps sending the message that you don't need luck to succeed in this industry?
DIANA: Mm... A little bit of both, I'd say. A little bit of both. (laughs)
CODIE: I see. Well, I think that's just about all the time we have. Diana, thanks so much again for taking the time to sit down with me and the rest of the Renegade Universe! Is there anything you'd like to say before we wrap things up?
DIANA: Yeah, I do actually! To you...
DIANA: May the best woman win at Crash Course. But... When the best woman DOES win? Promise me you won't be disappointed.
CODIE: ... Oh, don't worry; the disappointment won't be mine. I promise!
DIANA: See you in the ring... Champ. Don't forget to wear your lucky socks!
CODIE: .... Well, that was an... illuminating segment!
CODIE: Ladies and gentlemen, this has been "What the Hale?!" Thanks again for tuning in! We'll have another poll up very soon, so be sure to tell us who YOU want to hear from next! And don't forget to tune into Crash Course! Renegade Wrestling has a heck of a match card lined up for you guys; Diana and I will be colliding for the Women's Championship, and that's only part of what's in store. You don't want to miss it!
CODIE: Hale out!
